A Rich History of Excellence

Our journey began in 2007 during a challenging economic time. We started at the Historic Pittston Farm in the Maine Woods. We offered instruction clinics and Registered Maine Guide courses. Gas prices rose and the roads were very rough. We decided to move to a more accessible location. This led us to the beautiful Moosehead Lake area.

Growing at Moosehead Lake

We initially operated out of a small garage in Greenville. Our team swept the floors every morning for guests. We played loud music and rafting videos to build energy. The business grew quickly and we needed more space soon. We moved to a larger building on Indian Hill in 2011. This site gave us a professional lodge feel with pine walls. We built a commercial kitchen for delicious raft trip meals.

Expanding Our Horizons

In 2012, we assumed management of the Indian Hill Motel. This allowed us to offer complete vacation packages to guests. We purchased state allocations to raft on more rivers. Now we operate on the Kennebec and Penobscot rivers too. We moved into our own custom base lodge in 2016. This facility represents the true spirit of the Maine woods.

Why Choose the Dead River?

The Dead River offers more continuous whitewater than most rivers. You get sixteen miles of rapids without any flat water. This makes it a top choice for experienced rafters. The scenery is also breathtaking and entirely unspoiled. You might see moose or eagles during your trip. Our guides know every rock and wave on the river. They ensure your safety while maximizing your fun.

Exclusive Discount Packages

Do you want even more excitement for your trip? Ask about our Two Rivers in Two Days packages. You can raft two different rivers in one weekend. This is the best way to see Maine’s beauty. We also offer moose tours and quiet water paddles. Our company is your concierge for all things outdoors.

Local Destinations Nearby

Our location is perfect for exploring more of Maine. Mount Katahdin is only fifty miles to the north. This is Maine’s largest mountain and a hiker’s dream. You can also visit Bar Harbor for fresh lobster. Many guests enjoy whale watching on the coast first. Then they come to us for forest adventures.
