The Heart of the Highlands: Rediscover the Historic Greenville Junction Depot
Witness the transformation of a Maine landmark as history, community, and the beauty of Moosehead Lake collide.
Standing proudly at the crossroads of history, the Greenville Junction Railroad Depot—it is a symbol of Maine’s industrial heritage. Originally built in 1889 by the Canadian Pacific Railroad, this architectural icon is famous for its Victorian charm. In particular, its distinctive “witch’s hat” roof line stands out. After decades of uncertainty, the Depot is now entering its most exciting chapter yet. Furthermore, it is evolving into a vibrant community hub.
A Legacy Worth Preserving
Once listed among Maine’s most endangered historic sites in 2008, the Depot’s future was secured by the Greenville Junction Depot Friends, a dedicated 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. Since obtaining its place on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017, the station has been undergoing a meticulous restoration. As a result, it will serve as the “Western Gateway” to the Moosehead Lake Region.
2024 Milestones: The Interior Revival

A New Community Venue: The newly renovated Freight Shed now features electricity, handicapped-accessible restrooms, and a caterer’s kitchen, making it a premier rental space for local events.
-
Ongoing Campaigns: Preservation efforts continue with the Adopt-A-Window and Station Master’s Office campaigns, inviting supporters to leave a permanent mark on this historic site.
