🏞️ Mount Kineo: A Timeless Masterpiece on Moosehead Lake
Towering 1,789 feet above the crystalline waters of Moosehead Lake, Mount Kineo is more than just a mountain—it is a geological marvel and a pillar of Maine’s outdoor heritage. Its sheer 700-foot flint cliff face isn’t just a stunning sight for boaters; it is a critical nesting habitat for majestic peregrine falcons and home to rare alpine flora found nowhere else in the region.
This massive peninsula, accessible only by water, offers a blend of rugged adventure and serene isolation. Whether you’re drawn by the challenge of the summit, the whisper of its grand hotel history, or the 360-degree vistas from the fire tower, Mount Kineo State Park is a bucket-list destination that defines the spirit of The Maine Highlands.

🪨 A Glimpse into the Gilded Age
Mount Kineo’s history is as dramatic as its cliffs. In the late 19th century, it was the site of the Mount Kineo House, once the largest inland waterfront hotel in America, hosting over 1,000 elite “rusticators” from Boston and New York. While the grand hotel is gone, its legacy endures in the Mt. Kineo Golf Course—one of the oldest 9-hole courses in New England (built in the 1890s), where you can still play a round at the foot of the mountain today.
