Get your gear ready for the ultimate fishing adventure! The Chesuncook Lake Salmon Derby is back, inviting anglers of all ages to the pristine waters of the Moosehead Lake Region. This time-honored tradition isn’t just a competition; it’s a celebration of Maine’s outdoor heritage and a vital charity event supported by the Natural Resource Education Center (NREC) at Moosehead.

Competitive Prizes & Community Spirit

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a weekend warrior, there are plenty of ways to win big while supporting a great cause.

2024 Derby Prizes:

  • Grand Prize (Largest Salmon): $500 for the heaviest catch, donated by NREC.

  • Runners Up: $200 for 2nd Place and $100 for 3rd Place, both proudly donated by Northwoods Jack and Construction.

  • The $1,000 Fish Pool: A special $1,000 drawing for one lucky fish entered into the pool, donated in honor of Dr. Charles and Alice Cushing.

  • Restoration in Action: Every salmon under 16 inches brought to the weigh station earns you a ticket into the fish pool, helping to manage and restore the local salmon population.

Derby Details & Regulations

  • Location: Landlocked salmon caught in Chesuncook Lake, Caribou Lake, and Ripogenus Lake only.

  • Dates: Saturday, May 25 (starting 12:01 AM) through Sunday, May 26 (closing at 6:00 PM).

  • Weigh Station: Located at the Maine Forest Service barn adjacent to the Chesuncook Lake boat launch.

  • Hours: Saturday (3:00 PM – 7:00 PM) and Sunday (3:00 PM – 6:00 PM).

How to Enter

To participate, you must hold a valid ticket and follow all Maine Fishing Regulations. Tickets are just $20 per person.
