Race, Laugh, and Slide: The Ultimate Recap of the 2025 U.S. National Toboggan Championships!

A Historic Weekend of Costumes, Speed, and Small-Town Spirit

Midcoast Maine was the place to be from January 31 to February 2, 2025, as the 34th Annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships took over Camden. What was once a quiet coastal town transformed into a hub of winter warriors, with over 400 teams hurtling down the ice at breakneck speeds. Whether you were in a banana suit or professional racing gear, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric.

2025 Champion Highlights

The competition was fiercer than ever this year, with winners decided by mere fractions of a second.

The Leaderboard Legends:

  • 4-Person Division: Team “Hell Freezes Over – Alpha” took home the gold with a blistering time of 17.656 seconds.

  • 3-Person Division: “BOLT #3” secured first place, clocking in at 18.127 seconds.

  • 2-Person Division: The “Top Boggan – Mavericks” dominated with a winning run of 18.222 seconds.

  • Experimental Division: “Team Chisel” from Lyman-Morse edged out the competition in their high-tech carbon fiber sled, winning by a tiny margin of 0.056 seconds.

A Chute Like No Other

The heart of the event remains the 440-foot-long Jack Williams Toboggan Chute. This historic wooden trough sends teams flying onto the frozen surface of Hosmer Pond at speeds reaching 40 mph. For the first time in history, fans who couldn’t make it to Tobogganville were able to catch every heart-pounding moment via a live stream on StreamState.tv.

Looking Ahead: The 2026 “Worlds” Race

The excitement doesn’t stop here! Mark your calendars for February 6–8, 2026, for the massive 35th Anniversary milestone.

  • The World’s Race: Every five years, the “Worlds” race returns, allowing any past 4-Person first-place team to compete for the ultimate global title.
