North Pole Express 2025: A Magical Christmas Journey at Boothbay Railway Village
Believing in the magic of Christmas is easy when you’re surrounded by the golden glow of vintage lanterns, the scent of fresh pine, and the distant, rhythmic whistle of a steam locomotive. This holiday season, the Boothbay Railway Village Museum invites you to experience the North Pole Express 2025, a premier Maine tradition that transports families back to an era of pure seasonal wonder.
Whether you are seeking a heartwarming family tradition, a unique date night, or a festive winter escape to the Midcoast, this enchanted train ride offers a nostalgic atmosphere that is simply unmatched in New England.
All Aboard for a Nostalgic Holiday Adventure
The journey begins at the historic 1912 Freeport Station. As you step inside, the warmth of a crackling wood stove greets you, instantly whisking you away from the modern hustle. Here, children can sit at vintage wooden desks to pen their most important letters to Santa, while parents capture postcard-perfect holiday photos amidst the museum’s meticulously preserved history.
When the conductor’s call rings out—“ALL ABOARD!”—you’ll settle into authentic, beautifully restored rail cars. You might find yourself in a classic enclosed passenger coach or the charming, open-air Little Red Caboose No. 551, which has been delighting passengers since it was first built in 1904.
The Journey to Thorndike Station
As the train chuffs through the frost-dusted forest, the world outside transforms into a winter wonderland of twinkling lights. Upon arriving at Thorndike Station (our very own North Pole), a legendary guest awaits. Santa Claus himself boards the train to greet every child personally. To keep the magic of the journey alive, each young traveler receives a special keepsake to remember their trip to the North Pole.
