Jurassic Jams & Cardboard Chaos: Saddleback’s Best Spring Tradition
Ready to stomp through the slush? On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Saddleback Mountain is turning back the clock 65 million years for the Annual Cardboard Box Race. This isn’t just a race; it’s a high-energy engineering challenge where the only tools at your disposal are cardboard, duct tape, and a wild imagination.
This year’s theme is ROAR! DINOSAURS!. We’re inviting all paleontologists-in-training to dig deep and build the most fearsome, prehistoric sliding machines to ever grace Wheeler Slope. Whether you’re piloting a towering T-Rex or a lightning-fast Pterodactyl, the goal remains the same: survive the slope and look “dino-mite” doing it!
🦖 2025 Event Schedule: A Prehistoric Party
The mountain will be buzzing with “Jurassic Jams” and high-energy racing all afternoon:
-
11:00 AM – 3:00 PM: DJ Eric spins prehistoric beats on the deck. Dance, celebrate, and soak up the legendary Saddleback spring vibes.
-
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Ready, Set, RACE! Watch the prehistoric parade as teams launch their cardboard contraptions down Wheeler Slope.
-
Post-Race: Awards ceremony for the most creative on-theme designs!
How to Enter the Arena: Rules & Registration
Joining the race is FREE, but you’ll need more than just grit to compete:
-
The Build Code: Your vessel must be constructed ONLY from cardboard, duct tape, paint, and decorations. No wood, metal, or hidden plastic reinforcements allowed!
-
Safety First: Helmets are mandatory for all racers.
-
Registration: Online registration and a signed waiver are required before you hit the snow.
-
Spectators: Not racing? Come for the crashes and the costumes—the “Jurassic” atmosphere on the deck is unbeatable!
