Craft Your Craft: The Ultimate Winter Engineering Challenge

Start scouting the recycling bins! On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Pleasant Mountain’s legendary (Nearly) 10th Annual Cardboard Box Race returns for a day of high-energy hilarity and competitive crafting. This isn’t just a race; it’s a test of imagination, physics, and Maine grit as teams pilot homemade cardboard vehicles down the Main Slope.

Whether you’re building a sleek speed-demon or a sprawling pirate ship, this fan-favorite event brings together families, friends, and teams for an unforgettable day of winter fun in Bridgton. Will your creation hold together for 8 seconds of glory, or will it be a spectacular “fold” under pressure? Come find out!

2025 Event Schedule: Mark Your Calendars

The mountain will be buzzing with activity from dawn until dusk. Here is how to navigate the day:

  • 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Registration & Check-in at Guest Services. All teams must be registered by 11:30 AM!

  • 12:45 PM: Pre-race gathering and Judging at the Sugar Shack. Show off your design before the speed takes over!

  • 1:00 PM: The Green Flag drops! Racing begins on the Main Slope.

  • Post-Race: Head to the on-site restaurant to warm up and celebrate the day’s winners.

The Rules of the Road: Construction Guidelines

To keep the competition fair and the thrills safe, all “vessels” must adhere to strict building codes:

  • Pure Cardboard Bottoms: The surface touching the snow must be 100% cardboard. No duct tape, plastic, or wax on the bottom!

  • No Reinforcements: Structures must be cardboard-only—no weighting or hidden frames allowed.

  • Safety First: Helmets are mandatory for all racers. A valid lift ticket or season pass is required to participate.

  • Teamwork: Maximum of 4 people per box.

Prizes & Glory: What’s at Stake?

It’s not just about crossing the finish line first—it’s about the “flare”! Awards will be handed out for:

  • The Speed Demon: The fastest team to navigate the Main Slope.

  • The Creative Genius: Recognition for the most unique and impressively decorated cardboard masterpiece.
